Hi all,

I recently found this: http://www.answers.com/topic/nisus

Do you think it fit?

Funny part is tht I use this nick for a long time now, and did not know about the meaning of the word in English.

Way back I just wanted a meaning for 'someone who always tresspasses borders, goes over the top/edge' and found Bacchus/Dionysus to be the closest match. But not completely, because I also wanted something Apollonic enclosed. (In Nietzsches point of view - Birth of Tragedy) So I made the shorter version of 'dionysus', because I like the sound.

Also not knowing that 'nisus' was a king from Ancient Greec Mythology too... Very funny this all is!

So what does your nick mean?

well, according to that site STRAT is an acronym for: Special Telemetry Research And Tracking :?

i chose the on-line nik of STRAT about 7 or 8 years ago when i started using the web properly.

it's literally short for stratocastor. the world's coolest rock'n'roll guitar. i play one myself and have a strange passion for it.

That was a close one. Your explanation for choosing the name could have sounded pretentious!

well... some people call me very arrogant ;-) (which is probably true btw!)

but it was a mere habit of mine to cross borders all the time... by now I know that this got to do with my brain damage

In my case, it´s not a nick, Zortea is my last name, but in Orkut and others communities I used the Neon Knigth nick, it cames from a Black Sabbath song, and since I started to play around with tuning(in my Fiat Tipo; the Big Boy) and casemodding, I´m putting neon everywhere.

Nice thread! Mine is, of course short for Ricardo (couldn't stand people always making jokes about that I Love Lucy old show) and my last name, Eloy (which I found to be the name of a german progressive rock band and for a race of the future seen on H.G. Wells' Time Machine).

Not creative, but imo kind of effective.

about 5 years ago i was reading a comic in a free art based rag. there was a comic of a guy on the street corner with a cup for change in front of him. he was holding a sign that read.. "make sure to visit me online @ crazy homeless guy.com"

it was still available for purchase when i first started using crazy homeless guy as my screen name, but i drug my feet, and didn't buy it. a couple of months later a web name re-seller picked it up. oh well.

it was kind of fitting for awhile. i lived in a dive hotel for a handful of months at one point in my life.

Gus Webb...any Ayn Rand fans out there?

In 'The Fountainhead', one of the obnoxious, second-hand leech architects trying to ride on Howard Roarke's coat-tails was a fella named Gus Webb. He was a smarmy smartass without an ounce of creative talent of his own, but furthered his career by stealing and mucking with other peoples' stuff.

Seemed appropriate.

:D

Dbarc - debark, from the french debarque - to disembark from a ship. Metaphorically aren't we all disembarking from a ship? Probably not.

To be honest, DB are my initials and I was studying architecture at the time.

Mines a character from metal gear solid video game series. Funny, i look nothing like him, i just thought the name sounded cool.

What's funny is whenever I read one of your posts I think of the Snake character so I have a mental image of you sneaking around in the snow wearing combat gear.

The power of suggestion :)

My name originates from when my family moved to Australia 17 years ago (and left me here :( ) and I called my little sister Lil'roo (as in a baby kangaroo - I do know they are called Joeys though) and she replied to my emails & letters calling me bigroo and so it stuck.

Being known as bigroo helped with the chicks too :D
