Sindala
Hi all, Just yesterday i downloaden the 30 day demo of 3ds max 7. I have worked with cinema4d for 2 years and with Vectorworks for about seven. i am now considering switching to max because there are so much more extra's for max and from what i see the top work is usually made in max. But i don't think i could ever switch to another program for my modelling work than my trusty old vectorworks. I found that a dxf from vectorworks can be imported nicely in max but updating the model seems a problem. So before i get deep into 3dstudio can someone please help me with the following: Does anybody work with vectorworks for modelling and 3dstudio for rendering, and if so how do you update a model once it's imported and all the textures are already assigned? if this is at all possible? 4DM
I think dxf is probably the only route. It's what I use to go from VW to C4D. (Even though I have the VW>C4D Exporter, the first version was a bit buggy with scale issues, so I never trusted it on a real-life job.) I usually amend the model directly in C4D if any changes are necessary, now that I have got more proficient in Cinema, though you can always just export from VW those Classes which have changed, and re-apply their materials from the superceded objects, which you can then delete or make invisible. BTW, what exactly is in Max that Cinema doesn't have, which is persuading you to spend quite a lot of money on new software? Just interested, that's all. Cheers, D. Sindala
Hee D, I think you should really try to use the import export plug-in more, i find it works really easy, just merge the new .vw4d and update the already textured model, you'll see all textures stay in place. Atleast they do in my vw11.5 and c4d8.5. you can set the scale of the import in the settings of c4d. I'm considering switching to max because it's the program most poeple use, and there are a lot of diffirent renderers, RPC stuff, tutorials, models etc. And at least i should know how to use it properly.
