Crazy Homeless Guy
does this sound familiar to anyone else....? i used to view walking outside as either sunny, overcast, partly cloudy, ect..., not noticing all of the differences with shadows color and such based on the sky conditions. it was not until i started getting into global illumination (vray in my case) did i start to notice these things. shadows on a sunny day have a blue hue, shadows on a overcast day have little color, just kind of a darker shade of the material. they are subtle, but they are there. Ernest Burden III
Monet knew all that a century before GI.

Tim Nelson
Hehe, yeah my eyes have certainly changed a lot lately too. Yesterday I was comparing the strong blue hue of a shaded part of my white house compared to the strong yellow cast from the sun. We've been having a ton of large desert fires around the Phoenix area lately and yesterday the sky was filled with smoke. Then sun was still shining strong through it around 4-5 p.m. but it was so eerie because it had such a strong yellow, reddish tint to it. The kind of light that you normally only see just before sunset. And through all this I'm thinking "Wow, this really looks like a Maxwell render". IC
I was driving behind a van the other day and wondered what the Incidence Angle would have to be to copy the nice reflections of the sunset I could see on its rear doors. I've been thinking like that since I got Bryce.

Jeff Mottle
What I really find funny, is if you start looking at real light for a while, you will find yourself finding some odd lighting somewhere and saying "that light is totally wrong, who was responsible for that GI, the color bleed is way to much" LOL. Seriously I saw some extreme red color bleed and caustics from the reflection of a car and the first thing I thought was if a client saw that in my image they would complain about it not being real. LOL.
cdos00
Yes, I haven't worked with HDRI very much or GI all that much yet. I haven't gotten that far in my 3ds Fundamentals TED BOARDMAN book yet. (which by the way is a WONDERFUL BOOK for beginners.) but I did read the tutorial that was linked to previously in this post by itchy-animation, it explained/changed the way I see the world. I read the forums religiously and have taken a lot of amazing information from them for use in my own everyday workflow. I will post some WIP's soon. (although, I am a little intimidated by everyone else who has AMAZING work on this web page.)
William Alexander
Hehe, yeah my eyes have certainly changed a lot lately too. Yesterday I was comparing the strong blue hue of a shaded part of my white house compared to the strong yellow cast from the sun. Now what colors are they really? Merry X-mas in July hehehehehehe These colors are very closely based on Chen's Daylight light set up... Summer soltice about 3:30pm. Mileage will vary with monitors and the likes LOL WDA
The Trickster
He,he.....you know you have gone to far in CG when you start referring to sunlight as Gods multiplier. Living in dreary Manchester he don’t turn it up much round here, were lucky if we get 0.6!! AND….he hardly ever uses a raytracer!!
