Archy@NJIT
Hello all, I am looking to build a new PC myself. I'm a student of architecture, so cash is kinda tight. I'm not willing to spend more then $2000. I have decided to choose the P4 3.0 with the 800 MHz. Front side bus. Accoring to intel's website, this processor was built purly for 3d purposes, and stats for Max 5.1 are given specifically. Here's what i'm equipping this with. P4 3.0 with the 800 MHz. Front side bus 1 gig of DDR 400 mhz ram PNY Quadro FX 500 SATA 160GB Seagate 7200 RPM NEC 17" LCD (hoping to make it dual displays soon) ETC. everything else on top of that isnt really what i'm concerned about advice on. Does anyone have the PNY Quadro 500? if so how does it perform. Does anyone know if the Quardo4 750 would be money better spent then the Quadro FX 500? if anyone has this identical configuration, please respond and tell me how you like it. Thanks for your feedback. www.newegg.com priced everything VERY reasonably.

bigcahunak
Newegg is good (about the best item on your list... ). The P4 is good too, even though I'd try to push for a dual Xeon (2.4s if needed). Also I'd try to make it 19" and even a flat LCD if budget wont allow an LCD. SATA advantage will be noticable only if you get the 10K WD Raptor drive and only if you do a lot of video type of work. You wont gain any performance with SATA in MAX.
