Cesar R
I wont replace my Dual athlon for now, but I am ordering an apple powerbook 12" g4. The 15" model however comes with the ability to conect to an apple LCD, expand Ram to 1GB and L3 1M cache. The 12" power book has not cache and memory to tops out at 640MB. the price difference is $500. I want to do some work "moderate" on the laptop and want it to last me for a few years. I also want it to be sort of a washed down version of my desktop machine. what do you guys advise?
ingo
This is a tricky question. I think Apple has the new 15" Powerbook in the works and we will see it soon, so waiting for the new one, or buying a cheaper old one than, might be an option. The 12" is a bit slow because of the missing L3 cache (and runs only at 867 MHz), but you can upgrade RAM to 1,5 GB now, although for a bit high price. Additionally you can try to get a refurbished 15" TiBook from Apple or any reseller, saves money and you have a warranty. I'm too looking to replace my aged G4 450 with a Powerbook, but i wait till the new one comes out or till Apples processor strategy is clear, maybe at the WWDC end of June.
