RyanSpaulding
Anyone know where to get good non-RPC 3d automobiles? For purchase or free would be cool. I'm having probs finding them outside of Archvision. Thanks in advance!
Ray
We bought a couple of sets from here and have been pleased with them so far: http://www.lowpolygon3d.com/cgi-bin/ccp51/cp-app.cgi

JamesTaylor
http://www.the123d.com has a car section, they can be bought individually or in sets
Chad Warner
We got the Dosch 2004 collection. If you can deal with the hi polygons, they are VERY good.
MetaHumanitY
They also come in low and medium resolutions. I use them a lot!

mbr
Be careful of the Dosch cars, their older ones are waaaaay off. Not usable, imho. The newer ones may be better, but I'd be hesitant. I love the http://www.cgdatabank.com cars. Really cheap, like $8 or something, been a while. But they look absolutely accurate and are very low poly. Unlke the lowpolygon3d cars, that are mapped, you can alter all the materials. You do have to mirror the interior for the US, but not a big deal. Also, the names are little different, as there are no Lexus or Infinity cars, they are Toyota and Nissan overseas. STill the best deal, though. mbr
Ooops. Maybe the new versions of Dosch are better. The 123 cars are the most accurate I've seen, though (and I love cars ;-), if you aren't worried about polys.
Ernest Burden III
Much appreciated guys. There are a lot of good models for SketchUp, especially at FormFonts . You will need SU to use or convert them, but they are fairly lowpoly but quite good. The site is a subscription. Lots of good lowpoly stuff, actually. STRAT
i vote for the lowpolygon3d ones too!
Ernest Burden III
i vote for the lowpolygon3d ones too! I bought one of their collections, too. They look good, but are mapped, and my problem is it's not one UV map per car, its many, making altering the maps (for example to change paint color) a PIA. Then, put in 8 cars and you have 40 -50 maps to keep track of. I prefer geometry-based models, like the SU ones I mentioned. No maps, though if I really wanted a map I could generate one I suppose. STRAT
yeah. there's about 8 to 10 individual maps per car. thats well over 100 maps for a set. C4D is good because you can plonk all the maps/materials into a sub material folder and hide them away so you dont have to plough through them every time you enter the material editor. if you have time it is worth going through the key maps and changing the colours to give you some variation, but yup, you need to keep track of a fair bit of work. on the up side the models are very low poly, they render extremely quickly and look ultra real. i'm using a SU bus in one of my jobs at the mo. looks nice, but stands out compaired to the lowpoly3d models. but then, if you aint doing photo realism imagery i suppose you dont need photo real cars. RyanSpaulding
or try accustudio.com. lowish poly vehicles. dwg format w/ sensible layers. This is the route I chose.
