radioVOY
i'd follow your first post about dirtmap for interiors, was great to get good quality in a short time. but in this case ( exteriors) i think should be better do it with a skydome of omnis and a direct light, i use it for fast renders, about a 45sec ( same machine) and got the same quality on a 800x600 image. just build your skydome with at least 10 omnis .2 intensity, 600 size shadow, 8 on samples, 0 bias. and for the direct .5 intensity, raytraced shadows. is almost the same time i think for set up. its better to try boot ways you can learn more. tburke
radioVOY, I'm trying your method of lighting but I'm a little lost. Could you be more specific about the omni light settings? Maybe show a screen shot if you have the time. Are you still using mental ray as the renderer? The like the sound of how quick your rendering were and I want to be able to get quality rendering in a shorter time (if possible). Thanks! Justin Hunt
Ambient Occlusion is great, but you will find that dropping it into the self illumination slot will wash out any textures too much and loos detail. Instead creat an oren-Nayar-Blin material and drop the AO mat into the diffuse Level. Adjust the level value to suit. Light the scene with 1 light for the sun , 1 for the sky and 1 for the ground. All directional lights. JH
