cdos00
I am sure this is an incredibly stupid question, but here it goes. I have attached an image below and there is a strange "gradient shading" going on in the straight molding I have around a tower for an unnamed grocery store. Can anyone help me with it? I have indicated the main light direction with an arrow, I also have about 5-6 Omni lights placed randomly around for fill light. Oh, and I am using the "default scanline no advanced lighting high" rendering method for this. Any help you guys can give is GREATLY appreciated. Thank you. Chris. (Sorry for the big black box, I needed to blackout the stores name.)
JHalton
It looks like your faces are broken. Post a close up of one of the areas with all the edge selections highlighted. Wonder if you have been cloning a piece of broken mesh? I normally get this when an error with the mesh has occured. I belive it can be fixed though. caffa
I think it's a smooth problem, apply an autosmooth modifyer
karl zacharias
I don't know if this will help...but i've had the same problem from time to time. Are you using a loft or sweep in that area? If so, turn off the smoothing...if it's a rectilinear piece. good luck
Victor Erthal
I think it is a smoothing problem. Apply the smooth modifier with auto smooth checked. Also, for the fill lights you created (omnis) in advanced effect rollout, uncheck specular, so that these light won't shine on glossy surfaces. Good luck! cdos00
It WAS a smoothing issue. Thanks guys!! I will post the WIP soon. It is only a conceptual rendering for our Structural Engineers to understand the roof geometry so they can give us a Structural System to work with. We may also use these conceptual renderings in some marketing materials. Thank you all for your help.
