Preliminary Boxxtech Results

Recommended Posts

http://www.3dluvr.com/content/maxbench.php

*=SSE ON in Max5, or Max4.26

Its interesting to note that the Dell system (which is actually significantly slower then the boxxtech system) costs MORE then the boxxtech system.

Working on the vray tests now, then going to lightwave.

Quick Notes on the Boxx System....

Compact (About the size of a 4U box, but vertical).

#@%$@#% Fast.

Extremely Quiet. (Can't tell its on)

Excellent CPU Temps. (32C Idle, 39-40C Heavy Load)

Very Neat. (Best cable management I've ever seen)

The computer on the far left is the Dual 2.8B Xeon [boxxtech]. The one on the far right is my Dual Athlon, the one on the desk is the Shuttle SS51B 2.66B Pentium IV.

I'll have more pics of the boxx system when the review is done, I'm just posting preliminary tests so everyone can get fast feedback. :)

Hey, I see one 191T. You´re lucky. I wonder how would you feel if you exchange that viewsonic for a second 191T...that would be heaven.

Hehe. I am currently trying to sell the vg191b to my parents so I can buy another 191T. :) The 191b has better response time (slightly) but the 191T has better contrast and sharpness. The 191T is also hella of a lot smaller and lighter.

Are you still developing the more multi-threaded friendly set of benchmarks? Hows it comming?

Yes. There are 18 planned tests per application. For 3dsmax we have the original 9 (as already seen) with 3 more scenes rendered in vray. The vray scenes are pretty nasty (very large scenes with tons of detail) and include two interiors and one exterior shot. Early tests indicate that vray is extremely multiprocessor friendly, so should give some awesome results.

(There are 4 applications...Maya, XSI, Lightwave, and Max, or 72 render tests per system...GAH!!!)

you know what would really rock?

3 x 191T

right now i try to decide between 2 x 191T and 1 x 210T (21" 1600x1200).

3 19" screens would be ultimate, just imagine the appearance (client impressing machine), but i can't really justify the costs vs. benefit.

Hi Marc,

My advice would be: IF YOU DO 3D GO FOR TWIN 191T´s!

I´ve been researching LCD´s and found out that the 210T is not good for fast moving objects(such as viewport object manipulation) and/or movies. Its response time is only 35ms. The 191T has a response time of 25ms which is starting to look good.

regards,

Christian

The 533 FSB, 2.8B Xeon's are Socket 604. They do not work on earlier Xeon motherboards.

Look for Socket 604, and 533 FSB.

Remember that these systems are VERY expensive. The motherboards alone start in the 500 range. Power supplies around 140 ish. Gotta buy ram in paired dimms. Etc.
