Next Question, are There are generic setting for using Mental Ray

to make This small simple project look a lot better Than scanline?

i am going to do a "walk-around" of This sometime Tomorrow

100 frames for iball Points of View, but Too large for animation

on purpose, This is a great design review Tool

for This project 1200x400 works just fine so far

The client really likes This 360 spin-around

Thanks

Sky dome-multiplier .75 +/- 216,227,255. You may want to desaturate that a bit for a "bright" sunshiny kind of day. Typically that's a good starting point. Using hex conversion of HSV 213 (degrees),.1,1.00.

Direct target, shadows raytraced-light effects shadow. Multiplier of 1 you may have to adjust that because your materials where not created under that level of lighting intesity. Color 255,252,248 or better yet hsv in max 23-24 H, 5-10 S, 255 V. You can add the 'Arizona' bright sun effect by adjusting the hue up into the yellows just a touch.

FG-

I'm running Max 6 so....

samples can range from 250-2500+. When palyin' with the lights keep the samples low 50-100. Once the lights are cool (or warm for daylight LOL) use the measured sample radius. Your scene could use as low as .5' max setting, but don't think anything above 2' will give good results. You want to speed things up a bit use something around 1/10 to 1/4 of the max rad in the min radius.

The thinking with the max radius being you want the GI to be able to effect smaller areas than the default radius (1/10 of the overall scene). For your scene the glazing inset into the veneer is about the LOD needed. A 3' radius does not really give the fine detial that a .5' or .25' radius will yield. You can still get decent detial with default settings and super duper high sampling, but there is some sacrifice-the scene tends to wash out a bit and render times can climb through the roof.

My guess is that you could get good results at about 500 samples with .5 max and .125 min with real good render times 1-2 mins 800x600, 10-15 mins 2400x1800 on a single p4 3.0 HT with 2 gig of ram, but don't quote me on that ;)

Hope it makes sense and is of some help
