Hello folks

Its a long shot, but does anyone here know anything about/have any good links to resources about object oriented modelling? I dont mean in the programming sense, I mean as a methodology in architectural practice - essentially using a responsive component based model as a fundamental design tool throughout a practice (like in the automotive/shipbuilding industry).

Thanks.

Tom.

That kind of vein, but more advanced. For example, once the building model is complete, you can extract all kinds of information from it ie: U-values, QS report, air changes, full drawings, the whole lot. Also, compatability issues between suppliers are identified etc. Each component interacts (ie: lift talks to shaft). I know it has been implemented (with limited success) but I am struggling to find a case study.

Thanks,

Tom.

IMO, BIM softwares are not yet perfectected in a sense that you could extract information from one single element and then with it all the inter connected elements that define it. And then still retain the hierarchy of information should one element be changed or redifined.

I find this article rather interesting. --> http://www.archpaper.com/feature_articles/10_05_next_dimension.html

IMO your best case scenario is Digital Project by Gehry Technology. It's a customized version of CATIA, to primarily suit the needs of architects. I have never used it, but from the description of what you need, the only software that I can possibly think of that can even come close to accomplishing all that, is CATIA. However, CATIA is a massive program (or collection of programs) which usually needs to be customized to do what one requires, but is definitely capable of taking the design process a step further than regular architectural BIM programs can (supplier ocmpatibilty issues, interactive components, building user simulation). But given how expensive and broad CATIA is, that's the reason I was suggesting Digital Project, because it is after all developed by an architectural firm (probably the most reknowned inthe world) to fulfil the needs of other architectural practices with the same benefits that they were able to glean from it in some of their most famous projects ( Guggenheim Bilbao, MIT Strata center, Walt Disney Theatre). And considering the fact that it is built on a CATIA engine, I would imagine it retains some level of compatibily with specific CATIA modules, that would probably do some of the functions you seem to be seeking; which in my opinion are just beyond the capacity of regular Architectural design/BIM software. Just my 2 cents.
