cinebench 2003

Recommended Posts

hi cga'ers

orininally posted in the cinema 4d forum, but i thought why not in the general forum?

it's Maxon's rendering/graphics card bench tester.

why not down load it and pit your computer's whits against the rest?

you dont need cinema 4d to use it, (well im almost sure, so i've been told) just down load it, start it up and press START :)

you can download it here -

http://www.maxon.net/index_e.html

just one more thing, can you also post up the scene render times in seconds too, only it makes life easier :)

Hi Strat,

Here's my setup:

Power Mac G4 Dual 1 GHz ("mirrored drive doors")

768 MB RAM

ATI Radeon 9000 Pro

OS X 10.2.4

and my results...

C4D shading: 121

OpenGL software shading: 322

OpenGL Hardware shading: 484

OpenGL factor: 4.00

Raytrace (single CPU): 96

Raytrace (dual CPU): 174

dual speedup factor: 1.81

I just got my copy of C4D about 2 weeks ago, and I'm really liking it. Your radiosity tips have helped too. I'll start posting images in the next couple of weeks for some critiques.

Jack

guys, can we also put the rendering scene time in minutes and seconds too? only the values given i dont understand, they're certainly not in seconds.

[edit]

Paul, why not change ur resolution from 1280x1024 over to 1280x960? only this will give you a 1.333 ratio renders come out at.

I'm not sure what the unit is, but higher = better. :D

Maybe it Gigawatts? "1.21 GIGAWATTS!!!"

My LCD screen is optimized at this res. Any other res and I don't get the full bennys of the LCD DVI hook-up.

As Strat has suggested, this new measurement in Cinebench is a little confusing. I've been using Cinebench for several years on many machines and had developed a very good sense of estimation with it. P3s and P4s were approx Ghz X 10. G3s and G4s were Ghz X 13. The new scale throws everything off. Its a little less than 10 X in raytracing though vs the older versions. This shouldnt be the case since the new engine is 20% fatser. My dual Athlon scores around 36 on the old scale and around 350 on the new scale. Oh well, I guess we just have to get used to the new measurements.

Oh yeah, the UPS guy tried to deliver V8 today so I should have it tomorrow :D

Greg... i am running the same motherboard as you (ECS K75SA)on my home computer. my cpu is a athlon thunderbird 1.4ghz. the processor and the motherboard both support a 266 front side bus, but when i change the setting for the motherboard in the bios to 266 my machine will not boot. it booted once for about two minutes with this setting, then crashed. instead i have to run at a 200 front side bus, which knocks my processor down to 1ghz speed wise. i tried contacting ecs about the problem several times (both phone and email), but they have the worse support i have used. i bought the board when it first came out, and i have not tried to flash the bios with an update. i don't want to try that, unless i know it will work. anyway, i was wondering if you had a similar problem, or if yours worked correctly straight out of the box. i know several people on their web board were complaining of a similar problem. i am not to worried about it, since it was only a $60 board, but it would be nice if it worked correctly.

any advice?

ts.
