Eric
Hello all, I'm curious if anyone has any input on pricing. Yesterday I received an email from a client. They're a luxury home builder, and they have a 6200sf 2 story home they have sketched a plan of at 1/4" scale. They would like us to put the plans into Autocad and block out interior elevations for their designer to detail. From there they would like us to create a full set of CDs. Most of our stuff is commercial, and we don't work this way. Anyone have any ideas on what a reasonable fee would be? How would you charge for this? Thanks, Eric
ihabkal
my advice is to price it by the hour. as an autocad user for the last 10 years, I found clients of that sort always make changes and redesign when they see the cad drawn.
vizwhiz
$1-2 a square Foot if it is already designed $3-5 a square Foot if it is not yet designed for architectural only does not include other disciplines just a ball park figure To start with This is an local Arizona estimate only ** after drafting The project you can charge hourly for additional changes ** Randy AD = after drafting BC = before computers, burning candles
Eric
Thanks for the reply. I proposed $1.00/sf this morning to the potential client. He was considerate of the fact that since residential is not our norm, it was hard for me to know the best pricing method. I think he might have thought $1.00/sf was too low, and was generous enough to accept our hourly drafting rate of $37.50/hr so that our company didn't come up short. He also mentioned that he appreciated us trying to give a definite price (as opposed to hourly) by doing it by the square foot, but since we have no idea what kind of change requests or how difficult they will be as a client that he thinks the hourly rate is best. Man, it sounds like this could potentially be a great client... Thanks for the input. It'll be nice to draw houses for a change instead of retail four-sided boxes!!! Tony
Thinktank - I bet at those prices, you still live at home, with your parents footing most of the bills. Also he was talking about cad drawings, not renders. But hey, advertise when and where you can, right.
