Brian Cassil
I need to find the best method for exporting models from Max to Lightwave. I could simply export my max model to .3ds and then import that, but I would really, really, REALLY, like to be able to have all the objects grouped by materials when I open it in lightwave. Is there anyway to do this?
Ricardo Eloy
Well, don't know much about LW, so this may sound silly... What formats does LW support? Is OBJ one of them?
Brian Cassil
What formats does LW support? Is OBJ one of them? I'm told that it supports .obj "natively". I've only exprorted to .obj once and I have no idea how it turned out on the other end. There are a lot of export options in max for .obj. I can see that one of them is "group by: material", so this sounds like a good route to me. However, I'm not sure what to do with some of the other options like, exporting a material library, rotate model?, faces as triangles, quads, or polygons?, etc. I've tried exporting and re-importing to max and all seems fine except for some really strange smoothing. It would sure be nice if there was some type of demo-version of LW I could use to import models I've exported from max with different settings. Brian Cassil
For someone else to render my model with. FBX?
Brian Cassil
Ok, found wht FBX is. I'll give it a try. One question, it says that before exporting from max I should reset all transforms. How do I do that?
ihabkal
there's a reset transform utility in the utilities paner at the far right.
