MegaPixel
Does anyone know of a way to steel or reuse existing mapping coord.s off of a pre-mapped and colapsed mesh? I thought it would be cool if there was an eye-dropper utility like in the material editor where you can suck the material off of any existing mesh. Fernando Lino
you can do it with "Acquire" under UVW mapping
Bugga_Guy
Aquire would work for pre mapped objects - but doesn't the Aquire feature become non-accessable after a UVW mesh has been collapsed? I guess the key is to autosave a copy before you collaspe a mesh - including its UVW mapping. Indeed it would be great to have some sort of extraction tool to reuse existing mapping coord.s off of a pre-mapped and colapsed mesh. But then again it would be great to figure out how the heck Ortho and Polar toggles work?
MegaPixel
I ask this question because I often find myself trying to perfectly match, for instance, a brick pattern on one particular house to another house using the same L x W x H values in it's Box Mapping. Although I know I'll eventually get there with trial and error, this question is more about finding a Time saving technique. I've never used "acquire" before so I'll have to experiment. Thanks for the help so far. - Mega
Fernando Lino
I use mostly Autocad and Sketchup for modeling, if I’m working on one project with different units with the same materials I use the same layers for all of them , when you re-link the project into Max this new file will keep the material properties(mapping and materials) because they were applied by layer. I’ve found this way easier for me instead to modeling directly in MAX.
Crazy Homeless Guy
i always right click on the uv coordinates in the roll out, hit copy, then go to the object i want to copy them to, click in the roll out area, and hit paste. alternately, if you have the latest version of max, you may be able to use real world textures to do what you want.
