rayray
When I import dwg's into 3dsm I get a dialogue box. If I check 'combine object by layer' I lose some flexibility over some objects. For example, if I put all my walls into a layer and then export to 3ds, all my walls become one object. So if I want to extrude a wall to a certain height all walls get that same height. I can't give each wall a different height, unless I uncheck the 'combine object by layer' box or if I put each wall into a separate layer in AutoCAD before exporting. Am I doing something wrong or do you just leave the ' combine object by layer' box unchecked?
Jennifer
There are times you'll want it checked, and times where you won't. If you leave it on, you can always get to the individual splines or mesh objects through the Modify tab, and the Editable Spline or Editable Mesh. Any object you need to edit individually you can detach from the larger object, then Extrude or modify as needed. When checkbox is off, the objects will still come in on the Layer defined, but as indivdual pieces. Then you may find you'll have to Attach one object to another to get them to extruse and edit as you need. Have fun!
