jucaro
Did you enable the firewall / router to accept incoming requests from port 3389? For me RDP will do just fine. I also feel much secured connecting to the VPN before I connect via remote.
bcampbell
VNC uses TCP port 5900 by default - though that can be changed. I use VNC a lot and it is a fantastic tool - but not sure about showing MAX over the interenet using it, though (depending on the spec of your laptop) may be a better idea than RDP. From the outside you need to setup a rule at the router forwarding TCP port 5900 to the IP of your office PC. If you want access to more PC's via VNC a VPN would be a better idea. BTW - isn't that risky in my opinion. Although a well known port it is password protected and I dont know of any abuse of it (except for employers looking at your screen while you work). For extra security though you should consider using it in conjunction with a VPN. If it helps I use a Netgear FVS318 VPN router and Netgear prosafe VPN client.
