Tommy L
I cant seem to make the target direct light (Vray shadows) coming through the window have a volume light added to it. Ive tried loads of settings, its just not doing anything. Any ideas? Cheers, Tom.
enigma
i guess volumetric lights would never pass solid objects, afaik. unless u do itr in post? i think one way is to render the effect in one pass and to composite in post...just a thought tough... Brian Cassil
I second the extra pass for the volumetric effect. If you do, you can very quickly increase/decrease the effect in PS.
IC
Volumetrics are very much like Lens Flares. It's a cheesy, non-essential effect and unless you make it different from and better than the default, you should just leave it out and fake in post as suggested above. How many times do you witness volumetric light in real life and think.....'nice'? Lets face it-it's just dust.

cdos00
I think it makes for a nice effect. It is all for the "depth" that you can't possibly achieve via rendering. Your eyes see so much more than we will EVER be able to produce in a rendering so you have to fake it a little to help add depth...otherwise it is so flat. I agree, typically when you see volumetric light in reality it isn't a big deal. However, when put into a rendering it can make a HUGE difference. IMHO Chris. Very true, however this image is just v-ray practice and its nice to know you can use all the tools in the box. I reckon subtle volumetrics can be pretty handy in animations. There's no glass in them windows, just a white background. The bloody thing just wont work. Im sure its just one box unticked (as usual) but that tutorial someone posted (many thanks) just told me stuff i already know im afraid. Anyone else tried volumetrics and Vray? Tom. IC
The only problem I had when first using volumetrics was getting the length of the shaft of light correct. It helps if you can see this in openGL but obviously it has to reach beyond the opening and usually down to the ground. Easily overlooked.
Tommy L
Tried putting the density to 100 and attenuation multiplier to 0 (I hope this means it wont attenuate) so id see it whatever the weather but its still not there, doesnt matter, im shelving this one for a while. Thanks for the help.
Tim Saunders
something simple i figured out a while back (with scanline), cncheck cast shadows in the gass object properties.
Brian Cassil
uncheck cast shadows in the glass object properties. From an earlier post. There's no glass in them windows, just a white background.
