Jeff Mottle
If anyone get around to trying this, let us know how it goes. I'd be curious to see how much of a diference you see. http://nvworld.ru/docs/sq4e.html
Greg Hess
Hey Guys, Quick note. First off the softquadro does work...mostly. its cool to be able to talk about softquadro since all that crap got banned from the discreet forum, cause elsa got mad...funny how elsa ended up going bankrupt soon after, and then resurfaced as an ATI dealer. Hehehe. Anyway...this is a hack...I would not attempt using this on a machine which was being used for production, or that could not deal with downtime. Make sure you have time allocated to dealing with possible driver issues, and/or reinstalling of video drivers and what not, BEFORE installing. Many individuals have had no issues with these drivers, but some have. The some of course is a small %, but I still believe since most of us do this #$@t for a living that everyone should be forewarned before using these. Test scores also show improvements in virtually everything...EXCEPT a few tests, where the softquadro'd card is actually slower then the geforce4 ti's. http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/profcards/profcards-09-2002-svp.html http://www.digit-life.com/articles/profcards/profcards-04-2002-update1.html (Independent look at results) [ November 20, 2002, 12:11 PM: Message edited by: Greg Hess ]
Jeff Mottle
Your links don't work Greg. ;( BTW, I only briefly had a look over that 20 page wonder that was a bit too verbose, but why does this hack only work fast on the Intel Chipset? Did I misunderstand the few paragraphs I read?
plastic
strange. i installed softquadro 4, everything worked fine. the display settings now show quadro instead of geforce. i can access the custom opengl application settings. BUT, there is no speed increase at all with max 5. i tried the benchmark scenes on cd2. wireframe performance didn't change at all. (it should be much faster with a quadro?) i have a geforce4 ti4600 chip revision A3. i rember using softquadro with my geforce2 card. there also wasn't a speed difference, if i remember right. Greg Hess
Hey Jeff, I know, I was fixing them, you just type too fast . Er I have to look over the article again. I figured since they pretty much released softquadro, it would be completely biased, and thus to ignore any results they had.
Greg Hess
The maxtreme drivers were what made the quadro's fast in max. I do believe there is a maxtreme version avail for max5, but I don't know if its posted on nvidia.com right now. Without maxtreme, you cut your wireframe performance in half. seismograph
sq4 is working pretty good and from a subjective feeling faster than normal drivers.. In max i recognised only that it's faster in shaded mode but not much faster with shaded+wire+selected object... this seems to be general problem with nvidia products, because even a fireGL8700 is faster in that mode. Lightwave is bit faster, ACAd with powerdraft good as usual. Stability depends more on the det. drivers than on the hack.
