DAN212222
hi guys hope your all well, im working on a external image at the moment for the castle i showed before, i was wondering how do you guys create your grass, displacement, bump or texture? the camera will be getting quite low to the ground in some areas so textures might look a little suspect lol cheers dan
Thablanch
Well, for general grass, I would use displacement, (VRay user, so quite easy to set nice grass t) and in the areas where the camera is getting lower, I would use geometry, using "advanced painter", a free plugin you can find on the web, paints directly on any geometry:such as rocks, toothpaste, or, as you need it: grass hope it helps
STRAT
99% of the time i'll use a textured/bump map. purely for speed. and done correctly you can get right down on top of it and it'll still look convincing. it's down to the quallity and type of base grass map you can find. for still work i'd reccomend comping some real grass in over the top. if it's for anims, again, i'd first go with a basic texture map, but for real grass try the SPD shader. or plugins like Hair department (free) or StormTracer for example. Although all these will drastically slow down render times.
Sindala
for grass i often use a photo of an emty field which i map on de object with a frontal mapping. You can look on http://www.sxc.hu for some nice grass photo's to use. Beware of the color and shadows on it. This might need some shopping. good luch with your castle Sir Dan!
