wizuby
I am pretty new to 3ds max, and one thing i am wondering is how to get rid of the sharp edges on the objects in my models. They make things look fake because the edges are way too perfect to represent reality. Is there an easy way to fix this. Is there a modifier in the modifier stack that can address this problem. What about applying an edit mesh modifier? Can this make it easier to get softer edges on some of my objects? (I am mostly referring to things like an outside corner of a wall or a the edge of table...or things like that).
Brian Cassil
Hi Adam, first, what part of Utah are you from? To answer your question, filleting corners is the bane of all max users. I know every other program does it with no trouble whatsoever, and it's extremely usefull/necessary to create a highlight on the corners of objects, but there simply is no fillet tool for 3d objects. The only thing you can do is chamfer 2 or 3 times to get something close to the same effect. You will need to smooth the resulting mesh but it usually works OK. Bugga_Guy
You can use the "bevel" modifier instead of extrude, but I think its a recent tool to max 7/viz2006
Brian Cassil
I just tried playing with the bevel mod... kind of a cool tool but I don't see how it accomplishes what wizuby wants.

Bugga_Guy
For a wall the modifier is not that ideal - but for other objects like a table as wizuby stated works well. However for the wall when you apply a editable poly modifier you can play with bevel to created a softer edge. Good luck to you on the move to LA wizuby
