lock proportion?

this may be a noob question....

is there any way in max where you could lock the proportion of an object so that when you change 1 dimension the others change accordingly? like for example, you have a box with L=10, W=3, H=2. then you want to change L to 16, but you want to lock its proportion to the W, but not H. I know this is easy with scaling(scale transform), but what i want is when i click that object i wd be able to see its correct present dimension. And isnt it nice to be able to just input a dimension & the object will change accordingly while keeping its proportion?

Have you tried the "wire parameters" under the animation -> wire parameters -> Parameter wire dialog? That tool lets you connect certain parameters too eachother. There is probably an easier way but thats the way I do it.
