considering Viz

I'm considering purchasing viz. I have never used auto cad. I have been rendering in C4D and another architecture specific program for 5 years. Is viz a stand alone program or will I need autocad? Can I import models for rendering? What can I expect the learning curve to be? Any advice from the pros? Is there another program that would be a better choice?

Thanks,

Dean

Yes, Viz is a standalone program. You do not need autocad to use it. However, it does have a file link manager in which you can have your 3D Autocad model interactively linked with viz. You can import other formats including .dwg, .3ds and many others (I'm sure you can find a complete list at the Autodesk website). Some people swear by modeling in Autocad and bringing it into Viz, and others say that modeling in Viz is the only way to go. Just depends on your personal preference.

As for the learning curve coming from C4D, I'm sure some of the others around here can help you with that.
