DVD Production on Windows

I'm currently researching available software for editing video/authoring DVDs on the windows platform. My budget is $1000, from which I will require a large sata drive, a DVD write and appropriate software.

My experience with editing/authoring has been on Macs until present. I absolutlely love working with Final Cut Pro, howerver it is overkill fir this situation and is only available on OSX.

Our needs are currently for the equivelant of Final Cut Express and iDVD. I have briefly tested Premier Elements and Encore. They seem to be capable of all that we require but are not as straight forward as I would like - I have never liked Adobe video sw.

Any thought, suggestions or experiences would be appreciated

Thanks for the replies. As I stated before, my budget is $1000. After purchasing the hardware I have $800 left for software, so Premier Pro is out of the question. Strat and I have been chatting about the appropriate solutions as we are both in the same boat. I think he is opting for Vegas.

I have aquired the demos of Ulead, Vegas, and Liquid. All three of which can edit video at levels beyond consumer grade software and can also author DVDs with motion menus. None of these solutions, however, has met my expectations coming from Final Cut Pro. I'm going to keep working with the demos, maybe I simply need a better understanding of the software.

I have used Vegas, and have been a Premier person for years. Practically speaking, there is really nothing that Vegas can't do that Premier can, plus it is SUPER fast. Well ok, it does nto sink up to AE like Premier does. But if yuo get that you need to get the Mpeg encoder and DVD architect. Vegas will write an optimized Mpeg file ready for encoding.

This lies safly in your budget:

Just a side note... I love the surround sound feature you can do with encore.
