Affordable Wide Format Printer

Recommended Posts

I am an architecture student and I am looking to purchase an affordable wide format printer (11"x17" or larger if I can afford it). I would like something that supports a role feed if there is such an option on a printer this small. I would like something around the $300 range give or take a little. Another thing I am taking into consideration is the availability and time involved in purchasing replacement cartridges (i.e. not having to special order cartridges). I intend to use the printer for Autocad '02 and VIZ images. I'm pretty clueless about the printer market, especially this portion so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Canon has recently release the 9000i, a six color 13x19 photoquality printer... its pretty slick, but its 500. The cool part about this is that it's predecessor, the 9000 is on clearance everywhere! I recently saw it in compusa for 269, and it's on their website for a few bucks more. I have the 9000, and It has proven to be very very good. The six ink tanks are sometimes a pain- i do feel like i change one a week, but i do know that I'm not wasting any ink... It does not have a roll feed, (a comparable epson does, but not the 6 tank system- the epson is not on sale, and epsons make a mess in my experience). The 13x19 printer is one of the best student purchases you can make, good luck!
