isagreg
Hi there! The company I work for got me a new computer. Now I'm setting it up and got couple of questions. First, the hardware: dual Athlon MP 2400+, Corsair 2 GB RAM Reg ECC, PNY Quadro 4 900XGL, WD 120 GB (8 MB cache) Hard Drive, MSI MoBo for dual Athlon... The sowtware: Windows 2000 SP3, AutoCAD 2002, 3DSMAX5.1SP1, VRay, Photoshop 7. Second, the questions: 1. Which video card driver should I install? There are 44.10 from Guru3D, 44.03 from nVidia, 43.51 from PNY and many others. What would you recommend with Quadro 4? 2. MAXtreme: options are 4.00.22(PNY), 4.00.28 and the latest 4.00.29 from nVidia. The 4.00.29 came out after Quadro FX, will it work well with Quadro 4? 3. DirectX: As far as I know Quadro 4 cards don't support DX9 (may be I'm wrong). So should I install DX9 or just stick with DX8.1? I'm totally lost, please help. Thanks, Isa. Greg Hess
1) Stick with nvidia's latest unless you have problems. 2) .29 from nvidia. 3) Quadro4's fully support dx8, and will run fine under dx9. They just don't have some of the hardware features of dx9.
isagreg
Thanks Greg! If Quadro 4 doesn't support DX9 what's the point of installing that?
isagreg
One more question. Will Quadro 4 900 XGL "drive" two 21" CRT monitors at 1600x1200, 32 bit 85 Hz? Or better to get a PCI video card for second monitor? Thanks
Greg Hess
1) Because the 900XL does SUPPORT Dx9...it just doesn't support some of DX9's hardware features. The main reason to install dx9 is because something requires it. 2) It will support two 1600x1200 displays at 85 hertz.
