dresmoshur
Hi, i have a dell I5100, P4 2,4, 512MB RAM to work with autocad an viz, i've decided to change to mac, may be a power book G4 1G, 512MB RAM, or an ibook with the same configuration, the only diference is cache memory (powerbook 512kb, ibook 256kb). In software i`m gonna change to archicad and lightwave. What do you thing about changing to mac? Which mac is better for me? What do you thing about change of software? Thanks,
slawnick
My first question would be why are you changing? Both Archicad & Lightwave are available for PC (which you already have), yet something is compelling you to switch platforms. What is that reason? Regarding which machine to buy, I would have to pick a new G5 dual processor. Running either of those programs on a laptop would not thrill me (unless I had a large external monitor I could hookup). Regarding the software change, both those apps do a fine job. If you are planning to use them together, my question would be how well do they work with each other? Can you easily move an Archicad file into lightwave?
JHalton
Interesting, I would stick with your PC from personal experience. You would have to consider a massive purchase on new software. e.g. Your image editing package, vector etc...I presume you have these on your PC at the moment? I does seem like going to put money in a steel bin and set fire to it. If you have the money and you cant help the urge to spend it like most humans upgrade your existing setup to an even better one? For the price of a Mac I can have a small render farm. A Thankin U'
charlemagne
donnow, I'm having the same problem right now. Have a PC (old 2x PIII 700 Mhz) running maya. Want to run Cinema4D and maya in the future. Worked fulltime on mac's in graphics businesses for the last 13 years. They never let me down, but they are a bit more expensive. I have all the soft on mac right now. Which to choose, don't know. fortunately, I can wait for some more months. When G5 comes out in 2.6 or even 3Ghz in that laps of time, my choice will be mac. Everything seems to fit smoother on a mac. they're more beautifull to look at too. :angerazz: I'm not a hardware geek.
charlemagne
Sorry, forgot to say, If you don't absolutely need the portable, I would go for the G5. buy a 2nd hand Ibook for your presentations. good luck on your mac, OSX is great.

Cesar R
I am also going to get rid of my dual athlon, and get a mac. I am looking to get a dual 1.25 G4 with 1 gig of PC2700. I already have an apple screen so that is not a problem. I have archicad and want use it with C4D. I considered the G5, but man are they expensive !!! I dont really have 3k. I will be doing mostly archicad, so Its not a problem. And yes I like the idea of a second hand Ibook.
