Wide angle lens without the distortion?

Hi,

 

I'm using a very wide angle lens (115deg) in one of my view and things at the ends of the image are quite distorted. Does anyone know of a script or method of doing a wide angle view without the distortion?

I've heard of one trick for doing this which involves rendering a much wider area then you need, then cropping in on your subject afterwards which removes the distorted edges to a degree. Zooming in from far off distances helps a little also.

Increase the width of your camera without increasing the height - a true wide angle photo is not 4x3 in aspect ratio.

 

You can then keep your camera at the usual 20-35mm and the "wide" format will take care of widening the camera area.

another solution proposed by Chris Mac a couple of years ago. it involves mimicking the barrell lens distortion that happens in a real life situation when using a wide angle lens. It won't correct all of your problems, but it might help. His pot is the fourth one down.
