mbr
I've got a file that started as a Final Render file which came in at about 25mb. I turned it into a scanline rendering, brought in a light setup, and it brought the size up to 100mbs. Now, all of a sudden, the file is 1 gig!! What's happening?? Any ideas? There aren't any new objects, actually less objects. It's taking 30-40 minutes to open or save. I've had to disable the autosave. Ironically, rendering the scene takes between 3-9 minutes (800x600). It's max 6. Thanks.
Gus_Rayvus
You have to run the garbage collecter go to file>xref objects then close it go to file>xref scene then close it then in the max sript dilogue type gc() then save it again all better your file size should be back to normal
MegaPixel
Another trick is to do a Save Selected method of purging youe scene. What version of Max are you using? For some reason, I've had half a dozen scene files self destruct like that since I've been using 7.5 Mega
mbr
Thanks!! I forgot all about that. It went from 1 gig back to 25mbs!! I couldn't open the 1 gig file, even on my dual 3.4/2 gig ram new machine. I had to merge it all a few pieces at a time.
jvlive
I also use the gc() command. I've been using this since early ver.6, now using ver.7, and , (megapixel, you say you have similar problem in 7.5?),I'm wondering why the problem's still there. MegaPixel
I've had a few scenes this past month get so bad, that they self corrupt themselves and crash when trying to save, save as, reset or even just shutdown. If I didn't have spare backups, I'd have lost everything I did. Even the autobak files were corrupting... Legacy file system bugs I guess. Man I hope Autodesk grabs this software by the "stones" and overhauls it's foundation real good. Mega
