Chris Johnson
How is VRay in rendering opacity mapped geometry? I presently have Brazil, and it totally blows when it comes to rendering opacity mapped geometry like plants, tree's etc... Mental Ray for instance chews through those things like butter, but I don't really want to use MRay (Not unless I have to). Presently I'm also not too keen with compositing because that's two extra steps: plant pass, and plant shadow pass. Both not too fun. So how is VRay in that regard? Chris J. Ricardo Eloy
It's not too slow if you use VRayMat putting the opacity map in the refraction slot. The problem is that it refracts the objects in the back, so it's not really a good deal.

JayTee
I wrote down some tips for speeding up rendering of V-ray scene with opacity maps. If you have problem with vray opacity map rendering slow, then try these fixes: http://3d-visualisointi.blogspot.com/2010/02/tips-for-speeding-up-rendering-of-v-ray.html
