mtutaj
I've been messing around tyring to get this material to look half way decient. need to make 4 colors of it for a rendering I am currently working on and the material needs to be backlit... Here is a closeup pic http://www.perplexedmedia.com/panelite/sample.jpg and the website of the actual material http://www.e-panelite.com I've created a seamless texture of the hexigons. http://www.perplexedmedia.com/panelite/ I have to create a blue, orange, red and yellow version of this for my current scene. Any help on how you would go about creating there would be really helpfull.. I'll try to post my progress. Thanks, Mike
taprice
I don't know if you can get depth without geometry but I used a Falloff Map set to Perpendiculat/Parallel in the Opacity slot using your hexigon texture. You should by the way trim off the top or bottom of the map to make it tile better.
William Alexander
Mike, The e-panellite site is unavaible right now ;(. I'd say model the honey comb, rather than create a map for it. The specular and reflective attributes of this physical panel may be very hard to realistically reproduce, imho. It will take a third dimension, depth to your hex pattern to make it 'work' properly backlit. ADT the entire nut and sandwich between two planes in Max or render app. Use reflection and very high specular material. My thoughts anyway WDA
