awdb0404
Hey all, Anyone know of a technique to create a shimmering metal cloth material in Max? I've got the metal cloth part down, created a transparent texture map in PS, but I can't seem to get that shimmering effect that mesh cloth has when hit by direct light. Is this effect only possibly w/ Mental Ray or some other renderer besides the default? Or is it some issue of setting proper specular reflection or refraction? Thanks in advance for any suggestions. http://www.gkdmetalfabrics.com has some images of what I'm trying to reproduce
DavidR
I'd try displacement to get multiple spec reflections. Try with a fine checker map if you're not too close to the material. This should work well in an animation, or a still depending alot on where the light is coming from -maybe an HDR with lots of sunny+cloudy bits? awdb0404
Thanks, Yeah for the most part we'll be relatively far from the material so I've been trying to fake the effect b/c I dont think its going to happen the way I've been doing it.
