MJL Imaging
I've modeled a pendant mounted ceiling fixture that has six lights in it. It's a chandeleir/candleabra type fixture. I'm not sure the best way to setup the lights for it. I've placed an omni at each light location and it ends up getting way too bright on the ceiling. Anyone have any ideas for fixing this? The lights are 6 shadow mapped omni lights with inverse squared attenuation just using FG for rendering VIZ2005 w/ MR lighting

STRAT
just lower the intensity of each light. you may need to make the falloff tighter too. experiment.
MJL Imaging
Strat, I was thinking about that but won't I lose the casting range of each light? I wanted it to be able to fill the space with enough light.
MJL Imaging
I started by selecting the lights and squashing the attenuation gizmo in the "Z" axis by about 50% so it didn't reach the ceiling. I'm running it now, I'll post it in a minute. I'll take the advice and add an area light in the center to add more fill
MJL Imaging
quick shot It's mellowing out a litle bit. I think I may have the right direction, just have to continue to tweak it. thanks for the help all
MJL Imaging
yeah, they are placed in the light locations. and yeah, you're right, I see what you mean,....hmmm. I have some experimenting to do I guess.
Tommy L
Looks much better, but can't understand why are the burned areas of the omnis so close to eachother on the ceiling? Are the omni lights not placed on the lightbulbs? Because thats where the omnis illuminance intersects. One way round it would be to put a minus light in the intersection point.
