Tim Saunders
i need some advice on how to set up the lighting in this scene. i'm new to vray (free). i'll be working on materials today, as you can see none are set up really. i have tried a few lights and a few shadow types. as you can see, the omni light gives me way too strong of a hot spot. really, i'm not looking for a hot spot at all. i plan to set up an exterior light source as weel that will provide some light, but for the interior i plan to use a few fixtures, but i'm not sure how to get rid of that hot spot. do i make the intensity of the light real low, and just spread more lights around? i'm afraid that will take too long to render. Ray
Don't your lights all have to have vray shadow selected, in vray free?
Tim Saunders
mark, not my design. they have given me the lighting layout. i thought about just puting them in there propper spaces, but i wanted to see if i could save time by just plaving soe self illuminating material wjere the lights go, and just fake the rest of the light, this is mainly for a material selection study more than anything. actually there aren't too many lights that will be installed, so maybe your right. i may just want to place the lights where they go. ray, the test image above has a couple omnis with shadow map shadows selected. i usualy use vray shadows, but i am not sure how to adjust them, to give a softer shadow (similar to shadow map). Ray
I think you can go to the vray shadow parameters and make them area shadows and play with the bias, etc.

a_rockyheart
think u should remove all lights in ur scnene. Remember to use vraylights at windows to "bring" illumination in . increase the environtment multiplier and use color mapping
