awdb0404
Is there a tool in Max 7 for unfolding the 3D geometry of an object to one flat plane, similar to the Unfold tool in FormZ? I thought I had seen something like that while I was skimming through the help menu but I can't remember where. Thanks in advance
awdb0404
Nice, thanks for the link. I saw that modifier but I thought it was pertaining to textures only.
Sawyer
This may not be quite what you need but you can also make planer by axis x,y, or z. Select the mesh click make planar and it aligns to the axis.
glennehill
Several people have asked me how to unwrap geometry such as a sphere into seperate flat planes that can then be cut out on the laser cutter. Here are a couple of links to tutorials on how to do this. I had marginal success with really complex geometry. Especially if the geometry folds back on itself. There is a tutorial on how to do this on the Autodesk 3ds knowledge Base. There is a short video I have seen on a number of sites [wonderhowto; youtube, etc.] They want allow me to post a link to these tutorials, but I did a google search "unfolding max geometry" and found both of these links from the search. Good Luck
