jtiscareno
Some friends asked me for some help on a 3d cad model that was given to them by an engineer, they told me that they cant do anything to it, it looks OK but shade, hide, snap, etc does not work at all. Another thing is that the beams or wall look OK but once you expolde them they disaper!!! I have never seen this happen. I think the 3d model was done in architectural or mechanical desktop. We could not import it to Viz, it is not reading anything, but I would like to know first is how to make it work in CAD first, so it behaves as a normal dwg. thanks for the help!!! siliconbauhaus
first suggestion would be to clarify with the person who created it exactly what programme was used mate
DennisHolland
Maybe save and export the file from within' CAD to all extensions possible and load 'm back one by one to see which works best. Exporting usually clean a file out and does a data-refreshment. Is it a DWG allready or an Autodesk Metafile done in, for example, Inventor? (which is a tricky tool when it comes to export and/or save a file)... Patrick is right. You've got figure out which package created the model, it could be quite a number. Especially engineers have all these handy (unknown) software to deal with their drafts
Fernando Lino
if the walls are AEC object you need to explode them in a 3d view...if you explode them in a top view they become lines.
jtiscareno
Thanks, I have exploded the walls any many other objects in a 3d view and they just disaper, vanish! Poof!, I have never seen this before, they are not AEC objects, and what is even stranger is that on the 3d view hide or shade does NOT work, keep just seeeing wireframe... It is a DWG file, it does not have anything else from another program it was done with the mechancial desktop but the walls, ceilings, stairs, framing, etc looks normal, but again nothing seems to work, not even the snaps! Have tried an audit said that it fixed 3 errors, maybe will try a recover. Have tried already the 3dsout command to then open the 3ds file in viz but nothing, blank. Any other suggestions..... DennisHolland
No suggestions from me, I'm finished One thing, before you run into something very timeconsuming, is trying to work the file on another station. Could be your cad-package as well what is giving the trouble. I think that, if another station handle the file with the same error, maybe the file is corrupted somehow and that ain't the best news... Hazdaz
A screen shot of this file could possible be very helpful. Also you say that the objects disappear when you explode them.... are you sure that you don't have any frozen layers? Concerning what you say about Hide and Shade don't work - is the CAD file just LINES, and not actually a 'real' 3D object (such as surfaces or solids)?? How big is this file - in terms of KBs? Without any more info, I would try resaving the file into an older version of AutoCAD - like version 12 or something... or try exporting it out as a DXF or some other common format.
