karl zacharias
Hi all, A quick question if I may...I have a good system at work: 2 gig ram, 2 processors, 2 monitors, excellent card, etc..., in the old days (lol) of scanline rendering I was able to run a render (even 2) and still be able to work a little cad or ps...now vray is faster and better but...at what cost, it seems to suck the life out of everything else on my system. Is there a memory setting for vray to limit what it uses...so, I may work on other projects while it renders..obviously foresaking a little speed...SUGGESTIONS? gfa2
I've read posts from the Vray guys that said max doesn't take advantage of the processor very well, but they have made it so Vray uses like near 100% of the cpu power. I guess in some ways it's good but in your case, not so good. I've never really tried this, but it might work, if you go into the Windows Task manager and go to the processes tab and right click on 3ds max, you can change the priority. I don't know if that will make your computer act wierd or anything, but it's worth a shot. You might want to play around with it while there is nothing critical open, just to be safe. Chad Warner
What I do is right click on the 3DS Max process in task manager, and choose "set affinity," then you can choose which processor to have Max use, and then work in the other programs. Max will render slower though, so it's a trade off. Worth it though, sometimes.
Craig Ramsay
Open windows task manager, click on the processes tab, find 3dsmax.exe, right click on it, in the set priority menu select the below normal option
