Sawyer
Still working on this. Looking for ideas to really get a good "broken" edge to the stone materials. I haven't been able to get vray displacement to affect only one face.
cdos00
Wow, Sawyer, that looks great. So the broken edge is only a displacement map? Can I see a bigger sample of that area of the rendering? seeing as how I am just learning I would be very interested to learn how you use displacement maps. I have heard of them being used on grass as well, I just haven't had the time to go and find a good tutorial on how to use them properly. Any help? p.s. We should get together for that beer sometime soon, unfortunately this week is fairly closed out for me. How about Tuesday the 6th of Sept? That would be the best day for me. Sawyer
Thanks Chris. I am up for that beer almost anytime but that weekend 9-3 9-11 we will gone up to Orcas island in the pacific NW. Actually this weekend we have to head out to a family reunion as well so it may have to be sometime middle of September. This is only a bump map. Both stone surfaces have a bump map on them, I was trying a vray diplacement to get the real feel of the cut but that wasn't working too well. Here is a larger image. Sawyer
Danubad Maria. This is not done & I have been playing with it all day. I would love to know if anyone has a solution to model this broken look. Cheers.
pablo scapi
In this situations i always detach the face that wan to displace, because never could get the desired effect when appling disp to a selected polygon of a mesh. But then you wil have the problem of floating point flyng appart from the top face, you could solve this by having a line of a uniform grey mapped to the edge so it would heve a clean liner cut on top and inmeditly start the roughtness. Other way arround would be to have a very detailed geometry base of the hole merble triangle and apply a noise only in the axis perpendicular to the broken face, that way you woul have a totally broken look. cdos00
Ah, now I see it Sawyer. In the much smaller rendering it actually looked pretty good. (not that it looks bad.) But I see what you are saying about it being a bump map. I will keep my eye on this forum because I REALLY want to know how you do it. I would probably just try to model it. (as hard as that sounds) Yeah, lets aim for sometime in the middle of september, I will be in San Diego the 8th-12th but after that I am free until the middle of October. We will keep in touch.
