a simple window - I hate 3dsMax sometimes

Is it possible that I have such trouble to do a simple geometry like this in 3dsMax?

I did some rectangles, extruded them, converted to editable poly, erase a lot of "invisible" edges, then apply chamfer, and it was a disaster!

Then checking on this forum found that it was better to apply edit mesh as a modifier. It was pretty good until this window.

Someone? any ideas how to create a window like this with chamfers??

tnx

here is the illustrator file with the curve: Illustrator spline

are you trying to make a beveled edge? for simple bevels you can Edit Poly > Bevel and specify the exact size. I never use the chamfer, simply because it becomes a mess so quickly.

All in all, though, Max is not a great modeler for architecture. I loved FormZ's Round feature - just click on what you want, spec the # of facets and size, and it makes the edges as round as you want. As far as I know, there is no easy way to do this in Max.

isn't there a "shame smiley"?

Bevel works just fine! I 'm sorry I didn't ask before. I've wasted so much time with chamfer...

MBR: do you export from FormZ to Max for rendering? what about the mesh? it stays clean in Max?

Thanks

It should stay mostly clean. Export as a dwg, or a 3ds if you are having problems (dwg will make all objects on a layer a single mesh in max, which can be nice for organization - ie layer 'glass' will be object 'glass' in max, 3ds will assign random names - ie object00000012).
