ctasker
Hi Anyone used to producing renders for the purpose of printing onto Billboard. I have been asked if i can produce a rendering to be printed on a billboard 8 feet by 4 feet. How high do i need the resolution to be so that the image would look convincing at this scale? Also are there any techniques for managing the rendering of a very large file to minimize risk of crashing my machine? Cheers

ctasker
I asked the client to get an image spec from the printer and what i got back was - hi-res jpeg or photoshop image! and the 8'X4' billboard size. Not very specific, this printer may not have done much CGI stuff before.

As long as you have around 5000 pixels in the long direction you should have enough. that will give you an image around A3 at 300 dpi. Most printers, large scale can extrapolate very well, and these things are not viewed close up, so as long as it is good from the other side of the road you will be ok. Printers should have an idea of the res needed if he is used to working at this scale. Lee
