mac3d
hey guys and gals, I'm about to have some business cards printed out, and I'm struggling with defining my title. My official title is Audio/Visual Specialist - however, I'm not quite sure this is fitting. I work for the gov., and I basically create 3d models, renderings, and animation - but I also do some graphic design, and the occasional multimedia presentation. I was thinking Digital Media Specialist. Any cool suggestions? I was watching Charlie Rose and he had Thomas Friedman on - author of "The world is flat" (an excellent book) he talked about industry convergence, and also mentioned something about job titles changing as a result. Any ideas? mac3d
STRAT
i work as an in-house 3d guy for a firm of architects and my business cards have me titled as "visualisation artist". i quite like it.

Christopher Nichols
"pixel monkey"? "All I do is hit render"? "The guy who puts lipstick on pigs"? sorry... those were all tastless jokes, but I just watched the Pam Anderson roast, so I was inspired. You are all very talented, I am refering to how clients treat us sometimes.
Brian Cassil
I remember when this question came up some time ago. The consensus seemed to be "visualiztion artist".
mac3d
HAHA! I think I like Pixel Monkey! That would look awesome on a government business card. Levity is definitely welcomed! mac3d
radioVOY
that's a question that i have for quite long. maybe "CG Artist", "Digital Content Creator DCC", "CAD/CAM Designer", "Virtual Reality Designer VRD", "Virtual Enviroment Designer" or any of the above posted. the title must involve all the skills for visualization and presentation matters (3d/2d cad, graphic design and video editor)
taprice
My company title is Architectural Illustrator, I refer to myself as Senior Coloring Specialist.
mac3d
Daniel, I do minimal if no audio - however being in the government - it was the closest thing the human resource department could categorize me as. I know audio/video people, and I'm far from that. Hence my question. I don't want to put audio/visual specialist on my business card. Trust me, I didn't pick the title cause it sounds cool. It's very misleading. mac3d
Christopher Nichols
All titles are misleading. They are designed that way... When I became an Associate at Gensler, my very clever boss said as a joke to humble all the new associates: "Remember, all employees at Walmart are called associates." To be honest, I would keep it simple and creative. I liked the title "Digital Designer" If that is to floofy for you "Senior Digital Designer" Makes it sound more official, and also if you go to meetings, it sounds like there is a team of people under you. Always a good thing. Misleading, but good.
Chad Warner
Somebody on the Vray forums (I think) had their forum signature as "professional color innerer" That's always been my favorite.
gfa2
My self proclaimed (but official) title at work reads "3D Visualization and Multimedia". I kind of like it without the "specialist" or "artist" tag...but that’s just me.
thinice
From business point of view, try to avoid the word "artist". A lot of people equate "artist" to "starving" and will treat you that way. Try something like "visualisation specialist" or "digital media consultant" I just put "animation director" on my card.
hockley91
I just had my business cards printed this past week from vistaprint.com. Very good prices by the way.... I had trouble with a title and I ended up just leaving it blank. My company pretty much spells out what I do so I left it blank. I just have my name on the card and my company name and contact info.
