Crazy Homeless Guy
...for some time now i have wanted a renderer to have the option to email me a file every 100 or so frames while rendering an animation. several rendering apps will already send an email when it completes an animation, but not the actual image itself. over the weekend, i came up with the idea of searching for a max script that might handle this. assuming i am not the only person who has ever wanted this feature. after a short search i decided that maybe an application that would email the contents of a folder would work better. i found one relatively easily. my attempt to put it into use over the weekend failed, but i seem to have had some success today. i am using a small app called BEEE (better email enable everything). it has options to only send new files, or specify file names to send, ect.. ect.. this way i do not have to drive into work late, on the weekend, or just show up blindly in the morning, to see if my renderings finished ok. before searching for a max script, i was going to try and render to a directory in my public folder on our exchange server. i only started searching for a script, then an app after i could not find the proper directory on the email server, which i probably should not have been snooping around on anyway. i could just ask IT to give me the path to the directory, but i prefer to solve things myself before getting them involved. in other words, i would rather not have 3 meetings to discuss whether or not i should be allowed to do this or not, then be told to let them think about it for awhile. ....anyway, i was wondering if anyone else has come up with a solution to this problem? quizzy
Waht you could always do is to get ws_ftp, and make a schedule to upload, or to synchronize folders on the PC and on the web server. That way you can upload your whole folder of images to the web server, if there is enough space on that server...
Crazy Homeless Guy
originally we tried to set up a virtual private network using VCN (?) (could be VNC), so that we could simply log into our computer from home, and have the ability to browse all of the drives, and do what we wanted. i think this would be ideal, but i think the delay time is slow. i think windows messenger also has a feature like this. the problem is the IT dept here likes things to be kept tight. the only communication i have is email and web, we can not convince them to set up ftp, or allow us to access the web via ftp. they consider it to insecure, and it does not appear that they will change their minds anytime soon. i may be hoping for more than what is possible or exists, but i thought i would throw it out, and see what others are doing, if anything. BEEE seems like it on the path to what i want, but it is not quite perfect.
mtutaj
Try out UltraVNC. it is a lot faster then VNC and allows for file transfers right in the program... Been using it for a while, and it is pretty quick, plus it has its own video accelerator. Ultra VNC Web Page Mike
