bobhobz
Hello everyone, I've been an illustrator for over 30 years, but only within the last few months have I been working exclusively as a 3D artist for an architectural design firm. I work for a studio in Beverly Hills and I get quite a workout on 3D MAX 8-12 hours a day producing 3D renders for various clients. I am looking to go back to freelancing, but I think I'd like to try and sell my services as a 3D visualizer or whatever the proper term is for what I do, to other companies in the LA area. A few questions come to mind... 1. What companies can use this type of service besides architectural firms? I'd rather not fight for jobs in what may already be an oversaturated market. 2. How long do most of you take to complete your average rendering for a client? My boss hustles us to complete our work in 2-3 days, but I feel the final product would look alot better if we were given more time. 3. I read a couple of posts about how much to charge and I must say, the prices seem really steep compared to what I'm making at this firm. People are really commanding those kinds of prices for this type of work? 4. I was looking through an issue of Architectural Digest and thought I might like to focus on interiors. Do those of you who do interiors use alot of borrowed models for things like chairs, end tables, curtains, wine glasses, etc. or do you create everything from scratch? Thanks, Bob
wilky9
I had some luck with interior designers. In my opinion, it is a lot more work than exteriors, as you have to concentrate on a smaller space, and people spend more time looking at interiors than they do looking at exteriors.
