Richard McCarthy
I am immensely trouble by the choice I have before me right now.. I am going to buy a new computer, and there are 2 CPU which I am considering.. one is Athlon XP 2600 Thoroughbred another is XP 2500 Barton core. I have read couple of review, and I am still trouble by it. XP 2600 is on an OLD core, while 2500 is on new core. 2600 maybe faster..and there is only $10 bucks USD difference between them. Which one to choose ..Athlon XP 2600 Thoroughbred or XP 2500 Barton??? -RM
Greg Hess
The 2600+ XP. Actually I'd just pay an extra 30 or so USD and get a 2700+ XP myself. Their only 135 USD. The barton's are nice, but the megahertz drop impacts rendering a bit more then the extra cache helps it. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?submit=property&DEPA=1 Technically though...the CPU's probably the cheapest portion of your system purchase. Even looking at 2800+ Barton's, their only 170ish. Nothing. Man I paid 700 USD for my PII 450 when it came out.
