oyie
im using dual 3.2 xeon, 4 gig ram with 2-250 sata drives(the other is mirror) with raid enable for the past two months and im quite happy about it. but recently i noticed that my workstation suddenly freeze at some point when im doing a task. i dont have any idea whats going on some say that it is cause by the mirroring of files.Do you think if i disable the raid it will improve? bokkins
you can try it for a few weeks, but i think it's because of the xeons... powerful computer... maybe its just too fast...
voltaire_ira
check if your raid array is healthy by checking the raid array whenever you boot..if your mirror disk fails..it your pc will still run since the other mirrored drive is still working. mirroring is for data security so i dont think your crash is caused by mirroring. unless both drives are deffective then you have a problem. or probably you are running on raid 0 (stripping) for fast performance..if the other drive fails, unlike mirroring, your pc will definitely crash since every data is divided into two and both halves are saved in separate drives. xeons are fast but useless if your using slow hdd speeds. raid 0 (stripping) is for fast data access and should make your xeons work their full potential.
