oluv
my system crashed today. it stops with a blue-screen after the welcome-screen and reboots. it doesn't work with save-mode either, but i can log in as administrator when in save-mode, where i created a new user account. now i want to save all my emails from my previous account, but when looking inside identities it shows an empty folder. i tried it with the recovery console but it also shows an empty folder. the emails must be protected somehow. when i tried to import the emails into the new account with outlook express, i managed to import one of the 2 existing identies, but when i tried with the other one i got an error message. i tried it again and now it doesn't work with neither of the identities. when trying to export emails, outlook express gives an error messsage that mapi-initialisation failed. the funny thing is i get the same error-message when i try to export emails from my other computer. and this one doesn't show any dbx files inside identities either... i have administrator rights for everything, so what's going on here? can someone please help! i am really desperate. i have some gigabytes of e-mails that i want to save somehow. best regards and thanks for any effort! o. oluv
thanks godness, i manged it by chance now. the files are only shown when you search for them with "search for hidden elements"-option on. then all dbx-files appear any you can copy them. but windows-explorer still shows an empty directory regardless of the settings you have for showing hidden files or not. strange behaviour, but at least i managed to save my emails! AJLynn
I've had problems like this before, sometimes the blue screen of death (BSOD) has error codes on it that can be looked up on the MS web site - take a digicam pic of the BSOD. From the behavior, it sounds like a problem with a driver or a program that's autoloading for your original user account only.
oluv
i already decided to install windows from scratch with all applications... it is long and dreary, but i don't want to try to save this installation anymore. only the data was important. the whole thing started when i installed service pack, which i installed because i had problems with shut-down. sometimes my notebook stopped during shutdown, and i (thinking it was already off) put it inside my bag realizing 3 hours later, that it was burning hot because the processor was still running. so i got afraid that windows could damage my computer sometime and decided to install this stupid service-pack, i didn't before, because i remembered some problems with standby and hibernate, and indeed after installation of service-pack standby and hibernate didn't work anymore, i got a blue-screen every time when i wanted to wake up my notebook. i tried to look for any fixes but haven't found any, so decided to deinstall service-pack again, and then everything got worse, the bootup time became too long and i tried to apply some "registry cleaning" with some nice tools, which was a big mistake, because afterwards i couldn't boot at all. i tried to recover my system, and copy back the old registries, but nothing helped, and now everything is messed up so much, that a fresh installation is the best solution
