Neight
Hi everyone, I've been working on this image for a while of an art school lounge. It's set in the evening with the sun just about to go down behind the mountains. Unfortunately, I'm still waiting for the proper weather to go out and take a photo of that for the background. Also, I'm trying to convey the sense of someone gazing out the window over the river (it will be in the photo) engrosed in thought without actually including anyone in the image. Any thoughts on how to do so are much appreciated as well as any other general advice on anything else. I've been a casual observer for quite a while and thought I'd get some critiques of my work. My thanks in advance. Nate
chuck
first off, your sunlight seems too weak. i can hardly tell there's light coming through the window. you need more contrast. secondly, the ceiling height seems really low. it looks like it's 6'-0" high. the scale of the furniture holding the flowers up seems too high. my eye is drawn to the right side of the image, i'm interested in what's around that corner, not the light/soon to be river to the left. i'd take a look at the glass too, it seems too bright for that space, almost like it's self illuminating. it's a good first image...what software are you using? hope that helps, chuck
darkblue_wire
good start but your objects scale still need to be adjusted it gave a feeling of very small space I think adding more light to the internal space will be better nice Images comes from the variation between shade & shadows
myriadz
I have a question though, if the space is really that low i.e designed in purpose.. wouldn't tweaking be in contrary to the real space?
Neight
Thanks for the good advice guys. In the current image the ceiling is 8' high and 8' 8" at it's max with the camera set at 5'. I've changed that to 9' and adjusted the design quite a bit. Right now, everything is conceptual not a final design so there's no problem in changing dimensions in order to convey the essence of the room. Also, I agree the stand for the flowers is too high. That's probably the largest thing throwing everything off, along with the camera angle. I've made some changes and will post an image soon. As far as the light, I've increased the intensity and in the test renders it does look much nicer. However, here in Kyoto, Japan there is a lot of humidity so shadows from the sun a little before sunset aren't so pronounced. Perhaps that's only in my imagination. After the weather settles down and I can take a nice photo from the site I'll just try to match the lighting in the photo. I'd also like to thank everyone for the very insightful crits. Let me know what you think about the next image. Nate
Neight
So here's the latest image. The background is just temporary, I grabbed it from my vacation photos. Any comments are very much appreciated. Nate - Forgot to mention the software: MAX and scanline.
