Vray question

Hi everyone,

 

We are working in Studio max 7 with VRay and encountering a problem only when we render in high resolution (4200x2970px). We see a lot blotchiness all over the place, something similar to when mental ray does not have enough photons. Increasing that in vray does not solve the problem. Has somebody encountered that kind of a problem and where do we start in terms of fixing it? I should probably mention that we do not see this when we render in low res for previews...

i've had a similar issue before, was fine at low res tests but had dots everywhere at hi res. turned out to be a material assigned to an object that upset it. They were dots tho rather than a blotchy finish to the whole render.

 

think it was a standard blend mat or a map inside it, still didn't like it when it was put in a vraywrapper either. the image rendered fine when i turned off the object with the mat applied

Basically what he said....When using the presets certain things dont change that you might could fool with such as the hemeshperic subdivisions and interpolation samples. If you havent tried turning up the QMC GI subdivisions, thats something to play with. Its a given that any standard material has the capacity to interfere with vray, especially if its any type of raytracing... vray and raytracing do not get along. You probably already do this, but just in case, when playing around with settings so high and at a such a resolution, using the standard max frame buffer to render region is a good way to test.
