C4D
Is there a current version of Viz that will work with windows x64 pro edition? Thanks
hidr
Why do you have drivers for all your devices? -)
C4D
I just built a new machine Specs AMD X2 +4400 4 gigs of ram 3 raptor drives MSI Keo 8 Plantium Motherboard I have a new copy of Windows x64 and also a new copy of XP Pro SP2 I was wondering which OS at this time will work best with VIZ? Should I just wait and install SP2 and hold off on x64 for awhile?
AJLynn
Viz should work well on either - this is assuming you have stable x64 drivers for all your hardware - but x64 is pretty new and there's not nearly as much experience with it out there, and it won't improve your performance very much or at all until there is an x64 optimized Viz, so I'd recommend either installing both OSes and then running tests on both (and reporting the results here, which would be very helpful I think), or just going with XP for now and upgrading to x64 next year. But wait - aren't you a C4D guy? Maxon's got a 64-bit C4D in the pipeline, should be ready... hell, who knows, but I'd guess pretty soon, and the upgrade will be free for C4D 9 users, and Cebas is promising 64-bit support support for FinalRender 2, so that would be a point in favor of x64. Brian Cassil
Autodesk briefly showcased max64 at siggraph, but the feeling I got was that it wasn't anywhere near ready to be released. I think the next release of max/viz could be 64 bit, but that wouldn't be ready untill around october of '06, and it may not even be ready then. My suggestion... stick with xp if using viz. Ricardo Eloy
Also, there's a benchmark somewhere in internet that compares Max on XP32 and XP64. Surprise, surprise: about 10% slower on XP64. So, stick with 32 bits.
abicalho
I don't know any status or have any idea of the developments of 3dsmax. Just looking at Microsoft's website there's no Visual Studio for 64 bits yet, so the logical conclusion is that there is no 64 bit version of MAX/VIZ because there's support from the compiler needed to make it. Brian Cassil
Alex, so are you saying that there is no current development under way for a 64bit version of max? Autodesk did demonstrate it at siggraph... although they didn't call it max, and referred to it as "pre-alpha". There were about 1,000 people in the room. They loaded up a rediculously large scene... I think 100 million polys or something like that.
Ricardo Eloy
I've heard of that presentation. My guess (and that's really justa guess) is that they probably won't call it Max. I mean, we all know how Autodesk loves to change their products names, and a new plataform is just the perfect excuse for a new name. As for the Visual Studio version Alex mentioned, I think it's perfectly possible that MS has some sort of beta version of it being tested by companies such as Autodesk right now. abicalho
MS has beta versions of it. Anyone can download VS 8 from their website. I'm just saying it's Beta, don't expect a shipping product out of a Beta compiler. That's all I am saying. I don't know of any details because I'm not working for M&E anymore. I'm working with AutoCAD now. Take the news you see at Siggraph as a better more trustworthy source than me.
