Iain Denby
Hi Gregg I need your expert advice on this one. Got my new system 2 weeks ago: Dual xeon 3gh Windows XP pro 980 XGL graphics card I'm still experiencing a '2 second pause on my new system, followed by a click from the hard drive. If this happens after a reboot, it will be their all the time (every 3 mins or so), if it's not occurring after a reboot, then it's OK. I started with a Seagate 120gb drive, which was replaced after 1 week (thinking the HD was dead). The second drive did the same and now after putting a Matrox one in the problem is still their. Surely this can't be a HD problem directly? Any ideas?

Surely this can't be a HD problem directly?... I believe you ment MAXTOR... If the same thing happens with 3 different HDD and the sound is defnitely from the HDD then it doesn't sound like if its their fault. Try those same HDDs on another machine see what happens there. Also, try a HDD which you know is working well on another system, in yours and then go back to its original rig. Yeah, lots of HDD moving around, but thats the only way of isolating the defective part If all is well on another machine, I'd RMA the MOBO. BTW: sorry but I ain't Greg... Good luck. Iain Denby
Thanks Bigkahunac Yes, I did mean maxtor. I don't actually get my hands dirty, so I'll pass it over to my computer guy. I think Intel tech have suggested to him it could be an under powered PSU (I think it's 450W)
Greg Hess
Most of the Dual Xeon rigs ship with 460 Watt PSU's. 450 should be within spec though. I'd try replacement hd cables, and then a replacement drive. Also make sure that the intel application accelerator is installed, as well as the intel inf drivers. These are not built into windows xp, and must be installed off the motherboard CD. Failure to do so will run the system with IDE drivers. (Compatability mode), which will result in performance loss, and/or pauses. And btw, its Greg, not Gregg.
